aka......THE BANK REGATTA........
NOR and Registration are available at: http://www.regattanetwork.com/clubs/gbca.html (http://www.regattanetwork.com/clubs/gbca.html)
Remember when you are registering for the Women's regatta you might as well registered for the GBAD and the Bank - all of the entry forms are available at the same place at: http://www.regattanetwork.com/clubs/gbca.html
I want to encourage everyone to please sign up early for the BBVA Compass Bank Regatta. We are only a few weeks away and let me tell you about some of the awesomeness you will be signing up for ---
Pre-sale of long sleeve, white, dry regatta shirts
Friday night -- Skipper's Meeting and GBCA Happy Hour on the top deck at Crazy Allan's Swamp Shack
Saturday day - great racing in beautiful fall weather
Saturday night - Old Sunset Grille for live music, catfish, shrimp and all the fixin's.
Give aways and daily prizes from the Classic Cafe
Sunday day - great racing round 2
Sunday afternoon - Trophy presentation at the clubhouse with beverages
All this because of our incredible sponsors -- Thank you -- BBVA Compass, UK Halsey, Gulf Coast Soda Blast and Hayes Rigging!
Looks like I may have trouble crewing up but will go sign up anyway. Sounds like fun to me. Earlier the better.
Done. OK J105 guys its now time for all of you.
Two questions:
1. I'm bringing a keel boat in from Corpus. Can I count on using the GBCA hoist, since HYC/LYC is members-only, except for their sponsored regattas.
2. My GBPHRF cert is maybe extinct. No changes since last rating. Do I really need to re-up for one regatta?
Visitor, from afar...
Man I love the name Pot Smoking ... on the B25. Looks like a complete winner to me. Boat should blow smoke around everyone.
Sail Fast - what kind of boat? I am assuming that when you say the GBCA crane you are talking about the one at Seabrook Marina? Their number is 281-474-2586, you can make arrangements directly with them.
Take a look at this year's poster!
Pre Order your BBVA Compass dry shirt today!!!
Contact me by email or PM here with your size!
Shirts are $30. See design and sizing chart attached!!
Do these shirts come in something like 64XL? With that material, my belly will look at least that many times larger then it is --- oops it is that large.
Anyway Bee will take a XXL.

The answer to #2 is in the NOR under Elgibility - basically yes, you need a valid PHRF-GB cert.
The Line Up --- a great band -- normally seen at Drip, Yaga's and the Turtle Club will be headlining the Saturday night party!!! Come join us at the old Sunset Grille Location in Seabrook Shipyard!! Live Music --- Fresh Fried Catfish and yes, Rum!!!!
Fried catfish and........ Not everyone eats seafood!!!!
chicken.....and hush puppies.....and fries.....and shrimp......
Kevin, please update the club handicap ratings.
Thanks,
GW
Sorry.....shrimp might technically be considered seafood --- did I mention CHICKEN???
In Texas, chicken is technically considered a vegetable - any other side orders?
Coleslaw.....
Gotta love Catfish on Wheels!!

Salad / slaw???
Coke, tea, beer? Something other than rum?
Not everyone wants a rum-fest with a side of fryer grease (yea, I'm WAAAYYYY overexagerating, I know) ;D I'm sure the catering will be as outstanding as in prior years and the rum will flow as freely as at all GBCA BASHES! A few folks might appreciate a something light and cool to eat and just kickin' back with some tasty iced tea.
Hey everyone -- Shirt order is going in today. I've ordered extras but if you want to guarantee that you'll have one come race weekend --- tell me now!!
I know you all love to wait until the last minute but please sign up for the Bank Regatta on October 9 and 10. It's only 2 weeks away!!!
Wow! The first real cold front is here (9/27). Almost light jacket weather
Today's weather should motivate you to sign up (http://www.regattanetwork.com/clubs/gbca.html)
Wish I was sailing!

Nice job on the e-blast Sailchick!
GBCA Club handicappers take note....
"Courses for GBCA Club Handicap will be a combination of windward-leeward, distance and or triangle courses of various lengths in that part of Galveston Bay bounded by The Bayport Ship Channel, The Houston Ship Channel and the shoreline between Red Bluff and San Leon"
Translation: unless something weird comes up, a fixed mark, distance course for the 'safety orange' class!

So fellow Club Racer/Cruisers, just an FYI - Walter and I will be on pin-boat duties on Saturday, and rooting for our Texan's on Sunday, so come on out and hold up the tradition of having some Racer/Cruisers out there for what's looking to be a great weekend. If you haven't made it to one of these parties - they're GREAT! Not that our make-your-own food/drink deals aren't the bomb. We're hoping to provide a fun weekend on and off the water. Cool trophies to boot - as soon as I get some more names on the entry list :-)
I'm not going to lie and pretend to be excited that the J Boat Fest has 31 boats signed up. There are only 15 of us for the Bank Regatta, one of our oldest and normally, most popular regattas. What do you think it is? Too many races right before Harvest Moon? I keep hearing people say they can only do one or the other and I guess most are picking the "other". We will have to start cancelling a lot of the fun stuff that was planned for next weekend unless more of you sign up. What can we do to promote this regatta more? What can we do to get all of the J-Boats to come play on our race course and not just with each other?
Sailchick-
I hear ya! J/Fest was shoe horned into the schedule as best as it could be. As it was we unknowingly conflicted with a J/22 stop and of course the J/80 Worlds are the week before. Both have huge impact on our draw. It's always a problem with any first year event to find the right dates. BTW-Very few of the J/Boats signed up for J/Fest are entered in the HMR.
I would say to try and implore people to race two weekends in a row. I think some of the J/Boats that are pulling down to J/Fest also plan to race in the Compass. I those particular cases it was the draw of both events combined that will help out both events.
The Dillon group ought to be an inspiration to all of us planning events from October thru March. They can't race at our place and the feedback I get from them is that they love it down here. We ought to spread that around to all of the sailors North of the Mason-Dixon line to help pump up our registrations!
I hope you end up getting excited for J/Fest-there are lots of crewing opportunities if your interested. You might make a deal with someone to go race J/Fest with them if they will race Compass with you!?
We have to keep building excitement to get all of these events back to where the attendance needs to be.
Sincerely;
Scott
Sailchick, if I could walk I'd be sailing. I'm still planning on being at the sat night party and grabbing a few shirts (save me an xl and small).
I'm sure you'll get a flurry of boats this week.
from above "BTW-Very few of the J/Boats signed up for J/Fest are entered in the HMR."
No kidding - only a few jboats ever do the HMR. Do you seriously think LYC never would have ever agreed to this weekend if they thought it would have any significant impact on their turnout for HMR? As for the impact on the Bank Regatta, it pretty much speaks for itself.
I appreciate that you are just trying to promote your event Scott but this has pretty much squeezed GBCA on entries which we rely on for the trophies and regatta parties, especially in this economy where sponsorship is not what it used to be.
Mary-
All I can say is that I am sorry. I am just supporting a bunch of sailors that came to me with this concept and wanted to run with it. I thought it was a great idea and hoped that it would get a bunch of the dormant J owners back out racing.
In fact a couple of out of town J/owners made me aware that with the addition of J/Fest they were hoping to do the Compass and J/Fest which would have helped attendance for the Compass.
I fully support the GBCA agenda and hope to be more involved and supportive in the coming years.
Scott
18 boats now!! Thanks everybody and keep signing up! It's going to be an awesome weekend!
And 5 of those are 105's. With a little luck we might even get to 6.
In all 1/3 of the entries are J-Boats.
As soon as David and I can buy another boat, we'll be entering as much as we can! :) Unfortunately, we're just not ambitions enough to use the soling for anything more than Weds. nights or occasional one-day regattas (plus she's 40 years old and pretty fragile so we hesitate taking her out into the bay too often... and we won't mention what a gal has to do when nature calls!).
J105's are getting cheap.
The NOR has been changed to reflect that the skipper's meeting is at the Club Classic at 7:00 pm, Friday October 8th and not the GBCA Club Office. Don't forget Happy Hour is from 5:00 - 8:00.
See you there...
http://www.regattanetwork.com/clubs/gbca.html
What an incredible stretch of nice weather we're having.
Saturday and Sunday forecast looks good. High of 83, clear. 8)
Translation: One less excuse. It really doesn't get much better than that.
Bee: got your 5 J105s...who is missing? Game on.
PHRF Club Handicap: come out and play, we have rigs to round
No matter what you float, it should be a great weekend
Radiance is missing.
Elixir no longer races much, if at all, and Tichenor (J-Teez) is in a similar situation. Both are excellent boats and are up for sale. Be nice to get a local yokel to buy one or both.

Seriously??? The PHRF boats are going around rigs???? From a racing standpoint I hate that idea, takes away a lot of the tactical components of the sport. From a business standpoint I like it, just hope nobody gets hurt!!!!!
Kevin
Go read that one more time.
It will be highly unlikely, improbable and doubtful that PHRF Spin boats will be going around rigs - that's why we carry marks......
Leigh Ann
I think that that was supposed to read club handicap???? just sayin
Shouldn't that refer to Club Handicap?

Thanks
Leigh Ann, Figaro's handicap is listed as 144. This is our current club handicap.
Our basic PHRF handicap is 154.
Please adjust our rating since we will be racing in the PHRF non-spin class.
Thanks,
Gerhard
Done! Sorry I forgot to adjust to your Non-Spin handicap. Leigh Ann
Last night was absolutely gorgeous! Thank you to Club Classic for hosting our Competitor's Briefing and Happy Hour. Today's forecast is looking a little light but the temperature should be good. Don't forget tonight's event at the old Sundance Grill in Seabrook Shipyard!!!

Great weather and light (but not too light) air racing, fantastic party and great finish for Hydrodyn. Thanks to all at GBCA for putting on another great regatta event both on and off the water!

Great Pictures!
Chek out the Hamburg/Sea Trial sequence starting on Page 13, photo 1743 through Page 14 of the photos - it was awesome to watch in person and the photos capture it perfectly!
Thanks John!
Wow, missed about 200 photos that I loaded but did not put in the set. Have added and now the sequence that Leigh Ann speaks of starts on page 17 now. The 200 are now pages 2 thru 5. Missed the Box'ter on Page 2 and start of first race.

Awesome pictures, as always, but could ya throw a brotha a quick ?suck it in? before the snap? I can do a ?serious RC moment? while holding my breath. It?s always a pleasure working with the Tramp boys. You will sit at the right hand of Poseidon. That?s the side with all the Champagne.
