Splice the Main Brace is Pirate talk for "have a drink (or perhaps several).Oh ya, it's that time of year again. Break out the Rum (Racing)!!!  Well, this coming Saturday, June 6th is the first race of 2015 Run Race series. So rustle up the crew, grab your Cruzan Rum (ya, they sponsor us so let's support them) and get ready for a SUNNY day out on Galveston Bay.

Party? Glad you asked, of course, come by your Clubhouse after the race for a get together with a couple of hundred or so of your closest sailing cohorts.

General Discussion / Missing Italian
February 16, 2014, 10:53:22 PM
An ?All Points Bulletin? has been issues for a missing Italian suite jacket. Last seen sitting innocently (of course that?s what they all say) on the back of a chair at the GCBA Commodore?s ball. It fits a body that is 6? tall and has a dark completion (blue on blue stripes). It goes by the name of Boggeri.  Be very careful, this jacket could have snuck into your closet disguised as, you guessed it, a suit jacket. Alcohol could have had something to do with its disappearance though the jacket doesn?t normally drink. Last seen hanging out with some ostrich cowboy boots, blue and black poke-a-dot socks and sitting at the Leading Edge table (which could be cause alone for its disappearance). Any information as to its ?wear? abouts   would be greatly appreciated. I tearfully still recall its last words: ?Grande Festa (Great Party)!!!?

I finally found an overview on-line. Is anyone using this software? It's pricy but I am looking for something to use at Race Week at Newport this summer.

Does anyone have any knowledge of Expedition sailing software? If so, can you provide a brief overview of its features?

Wow, thanks for all the responses and support! It's nice to be a member of such an active and engaged club.

If the water is somewhat flat, FD's fly (no pun intended). If there is a 1 to 2 foot chop they can't get up enough speed to generate the apparent wind that will enable them to point at all. I think that the average between the two conditions is how they come up with the 150 rating.  In looking at some of the FD forums throughout the world, a rating of 130 seems to make the most sense and appears to be the most common. That said, I tend to agree with Bee in that the 150 or even 130, though nice to have, seems a little high to me. I also like Kevin's perspective that if you give a new guy with a fast boat a high rating, you tend to upset a lot of people and make one guy happy. If the new guy has a low rating and the club is willing to make him competitive over time, I think that everyone wins. I am going to go with the later. I just wanted a way to participate in the race on my own boat. I'll plan on starting with the J/105's and race in the spin class. Anyone is the spin class can object and I will start later. If it looks like the bay is going to be real choppy I am will abandon ship (at least my FD) and try to bum a ride with someone.

I'm looking forward to getting my boat out there! Thanks for allowing me to race!!!
