The point is not about how much wind you had at the start, it's about what is the predicted wind in the morning any day in August if you look at the prediction just for this week alone at 11 am, Today 6kts, tomorrow 3kts, Thursday 3kts, Friday 4kts, Saturday 4 kts. Compare to any day after 2 pm it's 4 kts higher. If I'm looking at the wind and trying to decide if I want to race or not I'm sure I'm not the only one. Just Saying. 

I would have race but nothing for a week would have suggested that there was going to be any wind in the morning in August, not sure why we continue to schedule races in the morning in August when the sea breeze doesn't come in until pass 1 pm

Boats do not have to cross the Bayport channel, the starting 2nd line for HYC can be the low range which is close enough to HYC.

If we want more boats from HYC to be part of these races the SDR courses are the way to go. These races suppose to be fun and we want participation so why not create a Cruzan course that can integrate HYC as well.

TRUE NORTH MARINE RACE TO THE BORDER

It's with great disappointment that we have to inform the sailing community that this year's Race To The Border has been canceled.
It takes a lot of planning, months in advance, in fact we started last October at Harvest Moon regatta to promote the race. We are three weeks from the start of the race with just 2 boats signed  up.
At this stage, we need to cancel all contracts with the marina, hotels paid in advance, cancel the caterer and the brunch sponsored by the City of Port Isabel and pending orders for shirts and trophies.
We will review with our sponsors options for next year and we will do our best to make sure that this long distance race doesn't die going forward.

Thank you to everyone who helped with this event. Nothing happens without volunteers

We normally don't see boats register until April, May. Preparations still going on and the Kick Off party is next Saturday at True North Marine. Come by, we will have door prices, food and we can answer any questions you may have. It would be great if boats register early but it never happens.

Sorry for the confusion on the dates. Got a file from 2003 mix with 2017. Please note that the north side of Laguna Madre Yacht Club has been dredge. I have been told that it's 9 feet deep. We will confirm in the coming weeks.

It's time to start planning for the race. Schedule start is June 3, 2017.

Thank you to True North Marine for an excellent kickoff party.

Despite the rain, we had about 100 people. Just a reminder to sign up for the Race To The Border, activities are well plan including the bonfire on the beach. During the kickoff party I was asked if a power boat could follow the race, of course they can! This is a great race not only for racing boat but cruisers. In the past we had a lot of participation in the activities from families that drove down to spend vacations in South Padre and join our festivities.

The count continues to go up.  6 boats registered.

The count has gone up to 4 boats. Don't forget the Kick Off party April 18.
