Would you be able to resave as an older version of PPT [say, 2003, with .PPT extension] and repost.  I can't read the .PPTX extension.  Tnx.

Last night, we watched the second race of the America's Cup and covered "Shape Sails for Speed and Control". I've attached the Powerpoint slides for the topic...

Further to Harbor House being open, dredging is complete and should be open for business.  Below is link to the HH webcam ---- http://www.galveston.com/cruisecam/ .

I think you may be referring to Harborwalk, near Dickinson and off the ICW, west of the Causeway Bridge that is undergoing financial problems.  Harbor House is solvent!

I'm not sure what "work" they're doing at Harbor House, but word is that they've been reposesed/foreclosed and are now out of business.  Can anyone else confirm?

Roger that on weather, especially with a north wind.  I quick hauled on Wednesday and still had a foot and a half of mud on my keel where I plowed out of and into my marina.  It's no fun paying for a race if I can't even get to it.  Good luck to all that do race.

General Discussion / Re: Kemah Channel Water Depth
January 31, 2010, 04:26:42 PM
My draft states 5.5' but with "cruising class" fuel and water I am probably 6' or so.  I pretty much dredged a new channel most of the way leaving Watergate, getting down to 4.9'.  Almost to a dead stop at Watergate #8, so I know I was really close to the limit of the 1' of muck on the bottom.  Lots of black muck boiling to the surface behind me.

Knowing the tide was going out, I turned around and dredged another channel going back in, preferring to get stuck with plenty of daylight left.  My depth gauge was blinking on that leg so lots of muck still stirred up but I made it back into the inner harbor "safety" of 7'.  Sorry to miss the race.  Looks like I could have placed at least 5th [out of 5]!!!  :)

Never had a problem in the Kemah Channel.  Looks like if I can easily get out of Watergate, I can handle Kemah.

I saw the handout for "Racing Starts" session.  Are there handouts to be posted for the other sessions?  Tnx.

Fixed marks are good.  They are hard enough to find without having "moving" marks!

>> I was thinking this class flag should be changed to the international beer or martini flag <<

In the absence of such flag, I guess the crew could show their beer bottles to the finish recording boat!!!   :)

If you are looking for a bright orange flag for this class and want something "different" from an old orange rag, West Marine [Kemah] has a "water skier down" flag on Aisle 10 for about $6.99.  It is plastic and attached to a white plastic stick, which you can use to tie to your backstay or something else on the stern.

Aisle 11 has the orange, international distress flag.  I wouldn't recommend it!!!!   ;)

With the predicted continued NNW wind and crew coming from afar, Yippee HiHo is going to stay in her slip tomorrow, to avoid running aground and being cold.  Hate to miss it.  Looking forward to the 60% chances of rain the following weekend!!!

I am new to the Icicle series [didn't expect to have real Icicles in the series  :o ].  Is there any chance the decision to cancel could come earlier than 11:15?  I am not sure if I can get out the Watergate channel [draft = 5''6"] and I would hate to get stuck for no purpose.

Is there a phone number to call, in case I miss the Channel 68 broadcast?  In the absence of other word, we are going to try and get out.

Thanks for any suggestions.  --- AndyH    s/v Yippee HiHo
