Lewmar winch mounting orientation?

Anybody around this afternoon?  Got a a Lewmar winch nomenclature question.  I was just about to replace a 30 y.o. Barient 24 winch on my mast with a new self-tailing Lewmar 40 self-tailing wave spring technology winch ... which is totally different from the fabulous 30 y.o. Lewmar 40 self-tailing winches in my cockpit.

The instructions that came with the winch
http://www.lewmar.com/%5Cassets%5Cimg%5Cdataset%5CManual_B2189%20Winch%20Fit%20Issue%209.pdf
say to mount it so the load is on the "output gear" ... but nowhere on the Lewmar web site can I find the definition of an "output gear".  The drawing looks like it would be the smaller gear, but logic tells me it should be the larger gear that contacts the drum.

This is a different winch in this video at 1:30 mins.,
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WZr_NuCmB64
but it looks like the larger gear is on the load side, and at about 4:30 o'clock, not 3:00 o'clock like shown in the instructions.

Anybody have a clue about the correct orientation to mount this winch?

I am pretty sure you want the gear that contacts the drum to be under the load to avoid distorting the drum under high loads.  The Harken diagram calls it the drive gear but makes it pretty clear:  http://www.harken.com/uploadedFiles/Product_Support/PDF/35win-02-4-13.pdf

THANK YOU.  I chickened out yesterday with drilling the holes to mount it.  Personally I would call the gear that contacts the drum the INPUT Gear, Drive Gear makes sense too.  Output Gear??  Go figure...  Thanks so much for the link to the Harken diagram, I would have mounted it with the big gear at 4:30 like in the cleaning video.
