Galveston Bay/Clear Lake J/Sailors-We are starting to get inquiries from the Dillon, Colorado and North Texas on this event.  Need a couple of favors:

1.) If you are planning on attending-sign up earlier then later.  I hope all of you will come!  The sponsors and regatta planning committee are doing incredible work to make this a nice event.  If you sign up it shows the out of towners that we are going to have nice fleets and a fun event and will motivate even more of them to come.  Dillon Co may have 2 J/80s and up to 4 J/22's.  They have requested 25 info packets so the number could go higher!  North Texas may have 4 or more J/105's headed this way.  They would like to see more locals signed up so they know it's worth the tow!
2.) We are really hoping that this event with the variety in courses, regatta quality, etc. will draw out those "dormant" J/owners.  If you know a J/owner that hasn't been out sailing their boat-please go recruit them!!!  We need more sailors back out on the water.  I was told today there are ~35 J/22's-in the area-but only about 9 come out.  Go poke those other owners and tell them they need to come!  Race in around the buoys, J/Cruise, PHRF-There has to be something that will appeal to them.

Looking forward to seeing y'all out on the water!

LYC has extended the invite, even if you're not racing.
Racers in the J/Fest receive two wrist bands for dinner; those not racing, the dinner is $15.
dRiNks will probably be the usual arrangement.

Any word if a brand spankin' new J95, J97 or J111 will be available to "demo"?  :D

Chris-great idea!  But our J/95 sold and moved away and the J/111 won't be down until after J/Fest.  We did have a new J/80 finished by US Watercraft but it has been sold to an active Texas J/80 sailor-but it will probably not make it down to J/fest-or maybe just to show it off.

We will have a mysterious, interesting, announcement in November.  Think Bond, James Bond!

Where's all of the 80's?  80 fever is hitting AYC! The fleet has grown by 3 boats this year and there is significant momentum building for several more in the next several months.

The J/24's are indicating that they expect to go over ten boats.  The J/105's are the biggest fleet so far!

Apologies for no new boats-but the real goal is to get all of the J/Boats out together, especially the ones that haven't been out for a while.  We all need to get back to sailing!

Thanks;

Scott

This is looking to be an absolutely fabulous J105 regatta.  Its very likely there will be 9 on the line with at least three out of town crew and one very big out of state crew.   Looks like a TEXAS CHANPIONSHIP in the making.  Can't wait.

Now if we can get 15 80's, at least 6 109's, and a bucket load of 22's and 24's we will all be happy.

Sing up early guys. This is going to be big.

J/Fest Battleflags!

Originally the cut-off for the Battle Flags was for the first 25 boats-We are extending this and offering Battle flags for the first FORTY-FIVE J/Boats that sign up!!!!!! So sign up and get a flag that's more than worth the $75.00 registration fee!

OK, we have a bucket load of 24's (can we get two bucket loads?).  Where the heck are the 22's?  80's?

The J/22s have a circuit stop that same weekend. Too bad some will miss this event.

BoomerangJ

I agree!

It was a real challenge to find that "best date" for this Regatta.  Unfortunately we conflicted with this J/22 circuit stop.  I went to the trophy presentation at the Austin J/22 stop and apologized for this.  The message is that all of the circuit J/22's should go to Louisiana and support the circuit.  That is the heart and soul of our sport.

However there are at least another 100 J/22's scattered throughout the Southwest and have not played at the circuit level.  We would like to target those J/22's and get them to come to J/Fest.  If you haven't traveled with your J/22 before, but have thought about it-come to J/Fest.  Ask others in your club help to get your boat ready to travel.  We will have plenty of help at LYC to get your boat launched and back on the trailer afterwards. We will have on the water coaching and several opportunities to win a class from J/World Annapolis, North U, or GEL.  J/Fest is designed to support the circuit stops and help people get going with their J/Boat should they be interested in going that direction with their sailing.  Please encourage the less active or dormant J/22 sailors to come to J/Fest. It will be a good time for them!

Ideally next year we could include various OD circuit stops as part of J/Fest.  We have commitments from LYC and several other local sailing organizations/YC's that they would support us with race committee.  We could easily have several circles on Galveston Bay and have all of the J/Sailors together in the evenings.

31 Boats are registered!
J/105's easily made class with Ten Boats
J/24's made class with 8 boats
J/109's are racing OD with 4 Boats.

The J/22's and J/80's each need one more boat to make class!

The next 14 boats that sign up get the free J/Fest Battle flag!

It would be fantastic if we could get at least 8 boats/class.  That includes J/Cruise and PHRF.

Go poke your boat owner and tell him/her to sign up!

BoomerangJ

32 boats registered.

I have received a few sailing resumes from what appears to be very good sailors that would like to crew.  Please e-mail me if you need crew.  A couple of them are new to Texas/Houston and want to get involved with the Houston racing scene.  If you are looking for crew for any regatta let me know and I will forward on to you.

I could use a couple of crew for my J-22.

Email or respond here if interested.

Woo Hoo!  39 boats!  Do I hear 40!

People wanting to crew-please show up at the skippers meeting Friday night at the Lakewood Yacht Club junior sailing center at the back of the Lakewood property.  I'm sure there are plenty of spots on several boats.

Come on out and have some fun!

Thanks!
