There will be an Advanced Race Management seminar at HYC on 11-12 Feb (weekend after the Super Bowl).  Cost is $75 and registration must be completed on the US Sailing website.

For more details, contact Wayne Coulon at coulonwj@mindspring.com or coulonwj@me.com (not sure which one is most current) or Jack Yoes at jack.yoes@sbcglobal.net.  You can also contact the HYC office for more information.

A One-Day Race Management Seminar is scheduled for 4 May at the Houston Yacht Club.  This full-day seminar, test, and application will qualify individuals to become Club Race Officers.
Below is a link to all the information and links to register, access the Study Questions, and additional information.
It is important to emphasize the Study Questions.  It is expected that every participant will have completed all of the Study Questions BEFORE attending the seminar.  Just answering the questions is the first step – providing citations to the RRS that apply to each question provides additional knowledge of the Racing Rules.  Please encourage anyone interested that completion of the Study Questions is important.
If you have any questions or need any assistance then just let me know.

Brian H.

It's time again for the Elissa Regatta!  HYC has scheduled a super dynamite event with dinners, parties, bands, and much fun!  Mark your calendars for 6-7 April.

Here's a link to the page where you can find registration
http://www.houstonyachtclub.com/Racing/RaceSchedule.aspx

There are a couple of new things this year:
-  A pursuit line will be set up near HYC for those not looking for the hyper-competitive excitement of your typical windward / leeward races
-  A racing line will be set up down in the Seabrook area of the Bay for the larger PHRF and one-design racers.  Close for those in Clear Lake with longer races tailored to that crowd.

HYC wants to encourage everyone to come on up for the Competitors Briefing on Friday evening, dinner and party and more on Saturday, and the awards excitement on Sunday.  Special arrangements have been made for any boat that wants to spend the weekend in the HYC harbor, so reserve your space early!

This will be a circuit stop for both the J/24s and the J/70s. They're expecting J/22s, J/80s, J/105s, and J/109s too.  There are also plans for Vipers, PHRF spin (windward / leeward and pursuit) PHRF non-spin (pursuit), A-Cats (if they guys are healthy), Lightnings, Ensigns, and whoever else can make a 3 boat class.

More details to follow.  So, stay tuned!!!!

Hey all,  JackieAdams75 tells me he signed up on the GBCA forum looking to find crewing opportunities.  His registration hasn't been approved yet and hopefully someone can help.

Keelboat crewing experience, Thistles, Holder 14 skipper, and some big keelboat offshore and weekend round the bouy racing.

Told him to show up at the dry sail area at Seabrook Shipyard on Wednesday's looking for a ride.  Someone give him a ride as well as get his registration here approved.

Galveston Bay Area Racing / Club Championship???
October 15, 2011, 07:49:10 PM
Today was the deadline for registrations for the Galveston Bay Club Championships.  HYC is hosting, but nobody has registered for the event next weekend!!!
There must be some miscommunication between HYC and the other Clubs.

Knowing that there may not be the highest level of interest in Youth level regattas around this forum, there are nevertheless two Primiere events being held on the Bay in the next couple of weeks.

Texas Youth Race Week is a week long Junior Olympics event that will be held at TCYC on 9-11 Jul (Sat - Mon) and both HYC and TCYC on 13-15 Jul (Wed-Fri).  Over 100 Optimists, 420s, Lasers, and more racing on three lines!!!  Additionally, the Area F Eliminations for the Youth Single hand, Double Hand, and Tripple hand Championships will be going on at the same time.

Then, the following week, 16-24 Jul, the US Optimist Nationals will be held at HYC.  Imagine...  250+ children in Optis on the course at the same time!!!  There will be team racing with over 120 boats, a Girls Championship, and the Main Event of Fleet Racing over 4 days (21-24 Jul).  Spectators are welcome and encouraged.

C'mon...  How many of you have seen 250+ boats on the same course at the same time?????

I'll be running the Green Fleet (PRO, Race Committee) - beginners learning to race.  We'll have 70+ children on this line alone!  Anyone interested on coming out and working Race Committee for this?  I've got a few slots open for this amazingly fun event.  The big fleet racing is Thu-Sun (21-24 Jul).

Bottom line - if you've never seen children racing in events like these, you're missing something very special.

$10 discount for early registration (by 11 Feb), $5 discount for USSailing members - register early for only $45!!

The Race Committee is planning on using the Icicle Race fixed marks for the Non-Spin and GBCA Handicap classes and inflatable windward/leewards for the one-designs and PHRF-Spin, but both groups should be prepared for either option if necessary.

Things are awfully quiet...  Friday evening at 9:00pm and barely a word.

Who's finished?  Who's withdrawn because of the squall line this morning?  What's going on?????????

Enquiring minds want to know:-)
