I am not sure of those of you who may already know but TMCA Past Commodore Ed Herndon past away Tuesday night. Ed had been battling cancer for the last year and finnaly lost the battle. Ed was very active in sailing and boating in general. He and his wife,Marion, have been very active in TMCA for many years with both serving has Commodore.

Terry Young called me today as he had heard about Ed's passing so I thought I would make a short post to GBCA.

Services have been finalized at this time.

WOW, only two boats entered under Club Handicap. Where are all the Orange fleet boats?

I was sure I would get to race KATANA this weekend.

Come on out and lets have another exciting race for the Club Handicap Fleet.

For the last Icicle Race scheduled for March 10, will this be the Judge Smyth(sp) regatta,  as.was done  last year?  We had a lot of fun with that regatta. Skippers in Blue Blazers and Ascots, what a sight.

We hope to be able fly our spinnaker this year in the Icicle series, Finally got the pole and gear set up and now the learning curve begins.
A few questions:

Can you fly a spinnaker in the club handicap fleet?
If so does the handicap number change?

If we will get a new rating I please let me know so we can race next Saturday.

Or, if I need to race in PHRF Spin class let me know and what my rating would be.

I look forward to racing the icicle series again this year.

We did try to fly the spin for the very first time, what a disaster. even broke the whisker pole we tried to use as a spin pole. Not sure we will try that again for a while.

Our PHRF rating is 174 and due our poor performance  in the Rum Races we have been rated 209. I guess this will change soon.

The Rum Races have been great fun this summer, hope we can make the final two.

TMCA is involved in the upcoming Spring Fling in Freeport this May. I got the e-mail below from Doug Payne who is chairing this event. I told Doug I would ask around at GBCA to see if anyone is willing to help with this race to Freeport. I do enjoy racing but not sure I am ready to start a race as race committee. Anyone intersted? Please contact Doug Payne.

Ron:

We have decided to partner with the Brazosport Yacht club to put on a jetty to jetty race the Friday of   Spring Fling Weekend. They are handling the whole thing and we are trying to distance ourselves from it from a liability standpoint. However, they have asked for one thing, volunteers to execute the launch off Galveston. Knowing you at least have a little racer in your blood, would you be interested in leading this? I would think knowledge of racing rules would be important. If not, do you have any suggestions from the club who have the experience? I can put you in touch with Fred Cordes their commodore if you have any questions.

Best,

Douglas M. Payne
