Here are my photos from the committee boat. My camera is not nearly as good as the Lacy brothers' or Gary's but there are some good shots.

General Discussion / Traveling with PFD's
May 01, 2013, 11:43:38 PM
As the Texas Blind Sailing Team is leaving for Japan shortly, we're wondering what people's experience is when it comes to traveling with PFD's, especially the self-inflating kind. From the information we've read, it should be legal to pack one as long as the cylinder is disabled, but knowing how, er, "enthusiastic" some TSA agents can be, we'd hate to encounter any difficulties with our checked luggage, so we just wanted to hear from others who travel internationally with PFD's, find out what y'all do and know if you've ever experienced any issues. Thanks!

General Discussion / Boat naming party 3/30
March 18, 2013, 02:50:37 PM
For anyone who doesn't know, we're having a boat naming ceremony and party to properly honor the gods of wind and water and ask them to recognize our boat from here on in as the s/v Phoenix. Join us at 2PM on Saturday March 30th, O dock at Seabrook Marina (just take the first left after you pass the office and go just past the restrooms where the road curves). We will have food, drinks and a special souvenir for everyone who attends! We hope to see you there.

General Discussion / Texas Blind Sailing Team
March 11, 2013, 01:27:40 PM
Hey gang!

We just wanted to let everyone know that we are now partnered with Bay Access for our fundraising efforts, so donations made to our team are no tax-deductible! We also have a new website (thanks to Xavier) at http://texasblindsailing.com The site is still under construction, but there is a "donate" button, or you can also write a check to Bay Access/Texas Blind Sailing. We're getting close to our goal, however we still need help to get the team to Japan and time is running out so we welcome your support and thank all of our GBCA friends for cheering us on! If anyone has any questions, just send a message or call. Thanks everyone!

Galveston Bay Area Racing / Re: 2013 GBCA Icicle Series

Although we sincerely thought Blind Ambition had held our lead at the finish of Icicle #3, close review of the photos show that Big D did edge us out at the last second. Someone should have done a "Lightning McQueen" (from the movie "Cars") and gone too the bow and stuck out their tongue.  8) Anyhow, please adjust the results accordingly. Thanks!

Each of us was asking why do we do this?  It was warm in my bed.  The women think we are crazy. (and we are)

Shawn, some of us women are just as crazy!  :o

Please make sure to clearly display which class you are racing in. We only ended up scoring 4 boats in Non-Spin because a boat we thought was in our class turned out not to be. 5th was either Tenacious or Joan III but since we thought we had already scored 5 boats, we left before they finished. Thanks!  8)

Also hot chocolate spiked with Captain Morgan Spiced Rum makes for a nice thermos filler!

Hi friends!! Photobucket is running a contest called "Life is an Adventure" where you tell a story in photos and writing. The grand prize $25,000, which is pretty much what we need to get to Japan for the Blind Worlds! I figured our team's adventures make for a good story, so I entered us. Could you please go to the site and "Like" us? Thanks!!!! http://s1322.beta.photobucket.com/user/Texas_Blind_Sailing_Team/story/18895#add-text
