General Discussion / Home Page Photo

Nice job with the new homepage guys!  I recognize many of the boats, but I don't recognize those red brick structures in the background. You all put two together? Looks like us in the foreground (#713).

The Coast Guard will conduct a presentation and demonstration this Saturday regarding the incident which occurred during the Harvest Moon event last year.   Can a non-member attend this event?

General Discussion / New Galveston Bay obstacle
November 09, 2014, 07:50:53 AM
There is what appears to be an 8 in diameter piling 8 inches above the surface in the water.  Its at an 80 degree angle pointing due west with about 2 feet of it exposed .  I tried moving it with a boat hook but to no avail.  The position is 29.34.514 north, 94.58.082 west.  Its just south of the line from Clr Crk mkr 2 to the Low Range Mk.  I tries calling the Coast Guard with no success. If anybody has another option, please let me know. Another good reason not to sail at night.

The water looks pretty low for Saturday.  Windfinder shows Thurs. 9pm N23kg30k, 12pm Fri. shows N14kg16k, Sat. W8kg10k. Compounding matters is Clear Lake low @ 1021am. 28 in Houston Sat. morning.  Could make for an interesting day!

General Discussion / Auto Helm 3000
February 15, 2013, 08:34:52 AM
The clutch lever for my auto-pilot snapped in half.  Is there anyone who has an old model 3000 they would be willing to sell parts from?  If not, I'd like to borrow this part and have a metal duplicate made. I've gone through 3 in 13 years because they are poorly designed and tend to break in half. Any help would be appreciated.  I've checked E-bay, Raymarine, etc. to no avail..

Galveston Bay Area Racing / Rum Race 5 7/14/12
July 15, 2012, 01:30:54 PM
Seemed to rain almost all day Saturday and Sunday EXCEPT during the race.  Turned out to be a very pleasant evening on the water with no threatening skies.  Thank you for the Tramp-dogs Scott!

General Discussion / Founder Of J-Boats
February 28, 2012, 06:51:43 AM
We were watching the series "How I made Millions" on CNBC last night and they did a feature on the founding father of J-boats. I believe his name was Johnstone.  It was a very interesting story. I'm sure Bee knows all about this guy.

Are the Icicle Race start times and instructions posted as yet?  I'd hate to start the year behind already!

General Discussion / The Junk Yard Got Us
October 23, 2011, 04:48:23 PM
Broke our shaft and split our strut and bent the prop on our way to Rum 8 on 9/24.  Barely made it out of Portofino.  New shaft, fixed strut, rebalanced prop and ready to go as of today!  Must have wrapped something around the strut and shaft and it ate us up!  Oh well, there goes the Christmas cash..Nice to be functional again.

Just noticed Rum Race #2 will start at 3pm instead of 5pm.  More time to clean up the boat after the race and more time to party afterwards.  4pm would have made me happy, but 3pm will do just fine!!

The new site is really nice.  How do we view the current club handicap ratings so we may determine our Icicle Race start time.  I found it on the old site.  I know, I'm always the problem child..

General Discussion / Auto Helm 3000 Part Needed
November 17, 2010, 07:11:28 AM
Does anyone have an auto helm 3000 laying around they are not using? The black component that tensions the drive belt at the wheel broke in half.  I've checked E bay, the used part place on FM2094, the Ericson boatowner website. I would like to buy or borrow this piece if possible..Any feedback would b appreciated.

Where is the August CANNON?  Did it go the way of the Houston Post? Update the home page with upcoming events!  I'm grumpy this early in the morning.
